Sheila Brewster and Joseph P. Kennedy II welcomed him into the world on October 4, 1980, in Brighton. He and his twin brother Matthew grew up with their family in Brighton and Marshfield, Massachusetts. Kennedy grew up in a political family; his parents worked on the presidential election campaign of his great uncle, U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy. He is also the son of US Representative Joseph P. Kennedy II, the grandson of US Attorney General and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the grandnephew of United States President John F. Kennedy.
In Cambridge, he went to Buckingham Browne & Nichols School. Kennedy studied at Stanford University and majored in management science and engineering. Kennedy is a teetotaler earning him the college nickname “Milkman”.
Entry Into Politics
Ted Kennedy’s election predication campaign was co-chaired by Kennedy and his brother in April 2006. In the aftermath of the economic crisis of the year 2008, Kennedy worked for Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, offering legal assistance to poor renters facing foreclosure. After completing his Juris Doctor in 2009, he worked as an assistant district attorney. He served as the assistant DA at the Cape and Islands Office after earning his Juris Doctor in 2009 and in September 2011, in Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
On January 3, 2013, Kennedy was sworn into the 113th United States Congress and appointed to the Committees of Foreign Affairs, Science, Space, and Technology.
He traveled to Afghanistan in May as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, where they spoke with President Hamid Karzai and military leaders. He was appointed as the chairman of Governor Deval Patrick’s STEM Advisory Council later that month. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate announced as the Democratic response to President Donald Trump’s 2018 State of the Union address. Since the presidential election held in the year 2016, there has been criticism that the Democratic Party has leaned too heavily on its senior leaders. The party was attempting to close the gap by appointing Kennedy as a new face with one of the most popular names in American democracy. Kennedy is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC).
On December 1, 2012, Kennedy married Lauren Anne Birchfield, a health policy lawyer, in Corona del Mar, California. The couple met in a seminar which was taught by Elizabeth Warren and was held at the Harvard Law School.
