Jim Risch was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Helen B. and Elroy A. Risch, a Wisconsin Bell lineman. His father is of German origin, while his mother is Irish, Scottish, and English. From 1961 to 1963, Jim Risch Family decided to studied at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee before transferring to the University of Idaho in Moscow, a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
In 1965, he earned a B.S. in forestry and went to the university’s College of Law to further his education. Before receiving his J.D. in 1968, he served on the Law Review and the College of Law Advisory Committee. Since 2009, he has served as the junior United States Senator for Idaho. He was a Republican who served as Idaho’s lieutenant governor from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2007 to 2009 and governor from 2006 to 2007.

At the age of 27 in 1970, Jim Risch entered politics. He has won the election as Ada country Prosecuting Attorney. He was the president of the state’s prosecuting attorneys’ association and taught undergraduate criminal justice classes at Boise State College while serving in this capacity. Jim Risch built a fortune as one of Idaho’s most successful trial lawyers while serving in the Idaho Senate.
