‘Thank God’: Film personalities express happiness, relief on Aryan Khan getting bail

Several film personalities celebrated the Bombay High Court’s decision on Thursday, which granted bail to superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, 20 days after his arrest in connection with the seizure of banned drugs on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast.

A single bench of Justice NW Sambre also granted bail to his co-accused Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha.

Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia, who worked with Shah Rukh Khan in “Raees”, wrote on Twitter, “Finally! Bail out! #AryanKhanDrugsCase Thank God!”

Actor R Madhavan, who has a cameo with Shah Rukh Khan in his next film “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect”, said as a parent he was pleased with the order. “Thank God. I am so relieved as a father.. … May all the good and positive things happen,” he wrote.

Without naming anyone, actor Sonu Sood tweeted in Hindi soon after the order was pronounced, “When time judges, it doesn’t need any witnesses.”

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta said he is “very happy” with Aryan Khan getting bail, while he added that he is also “angry” with the judiciary.

Gupta tweeted, “I am very happy that Aryan Khan has got bail, but also very upset by a system that kept a young man behind bars for more than 25 days, which he never did. It has to change.”

“God bless you and Aryan Khan be strong,” the director continued.

Commenting on a news article titled ‘Aryan Khan gets bail after 3 weeks in jail’, actor Shruti Seth wrote that it was a “3 week trauma”.

Actress Swara Bhaskar and filmmaker Sudhir Mishra also expressed happiness.

Singer Mika tweeted, “Congratulations Aryan Khan & other accused on getting bail. I’m so glad it was finally granted, brother @iamsrk ‘there is no more fear in God’s house’. You have done a lot for the fraternity. Contributed.. God bless both you and your family.”

Justice Sambre said he would pass a detailed order by Friday evening. The legal team of the 23-year-old, who is currently in judicial custody and lodged in central Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, will now try to complete the formalities for his release by Friday.

Khan, Merchant and Dhamecha were arrested on October 3 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) for possession, consumption, sale/purchase, conspiracy and abetment to the possession, consumption, sale/purchase of banned drugs.
