Emmy winner to direct feature adaptation of Billy Porter CampFor the streamers HBO Max and Warner Bros.

The film, which will also star Porter, is based on the young adult novel of the same name by Lev Rosen.

according to the deadline, Campfollows 16-year-old Randy Kapelhoff, who chooses to spend the summer at Camp Outland, a camp for queer teens where he met his best friends.

The official synopsis of the film reads: “This is where he takes the stage in the big musical. And this is where he fell for Hudson Aaronson-Lim—the only straight-acting guy in the world and Barely doesn’t know at all—acting Randy is also present. Randy reinvents himself in the summer as Dale, an avid, macho and on-the-market camper.

“Even if it means giving up the show tunes, nail polish, and her unicorn bedsheet, she’s ready to love Hudson for her. But as she and Hudson get closer, Randy has to One has to ask himself, how much is he willing to change for love. And is it really love anyway, if Hudson doesn’t know who he really is?”

Oscar winner Dan Jinks is attached to produce through his banner The Dan Jinks Company, and is rewriting the screenplay by Kit Williamson based on the novel by Robert O’Hara Rosen.

“Billy Porter, whom I’ve been fortunate enough to know for over 20 years, is the perfect director for this story, which is both funny and quite moving. I wish there was a movie like this when I was growing up. I’m thrilled we’re making it now,” Jinx said.

Porter, also a Grammy and Tony Award winner, is set to make her directorial debut with an eponymous queer comedy for Amazon Studios. She was most recently seen as the fabulous godmother in Amazon’s live-action retelling cinderellaStarring Camila Cabello.
