MumbaiActor Bhumi Pednekar has been roped in to co-star with Rajkummar Rao in filmmaker Anubhav Sinha’s upcoming socio-political drama Bhed.

The film will be jointly produced by Sinha and Bhushan Kumar, who had earlier supported the filmmaker’s Thappad. Sinha, known for films like Mulk and Article 15, said Pednekar fits the bill of the crowd as she is a confident actor and a woman with a mind of her own. “That’s the quality this character should have. I couldn’t have asked for a better cast. These are the actors who not only shine on screen every now and then, they elevate the written word to create magic on the screen. I Blessed to have the team I am working with,” the director said in a statement.

Pednekar, who stars in films like Saand Ki Aankh and Dolly Kitty and Woh Chamakte Sitare, said she is honored to work with Sinha for the project. “He shares my value system of believing that films have the power to change mindsets. As actors, the onus of telling such stories lies with us. The same goes for Bhushan Kumar who works for his writers, It gives courage to directors and actors, gives them the confidence to be an inspired producer. It’s a husky subject and I can’t wait to continue on this film’s journey,” said the 32-year-old actor.

The socio-political drama will be shot across Lucknow, where Sinha recently did an elaborate recce.

Kumar, who is backing the film through his production house T-Series, said that he is very proud of the crowd and the subject. “Anubhav Sinha’s working process is so simple that I could not have asked for a better partner at work. Mood is one of those projects that I am very proud of. It is a tough story and he has put exemplary actors on board. But Bhumi is a brilliant artist and there could not have been a better choice for the role.”

The film is expected to go on floors in November.
