David Bowie’s estate is celebrating its 75th birthday with special pop-up concepts in New York and London. The estate opened two retail pop-ups in Soho’s Wooster Street and another in its native London’s Hayden Street. Two pop-ups opened on 25 October, 75 days before his birthday New York Post. The estate has been finding ways to keep fans captivated after the artist died of cancer in 2016.
Bowie would have turned 75 on January 8. And both attractions have been opened in the same places that were close to him. The New York location is a short walk from his last residence in Lafayette Street. The location of London is captured forever in his artwork, the cover of his fifth album.Ziggy Stardust and the Rise and Fall of Spiders from Mars‘.
The venues are not only used as stores, fans can also have a museum-like experience. They can enjoy music, watch videos and also buy merchants. Vinyls, CDs, Posters, Hoodies and much more.
Bowie 75 producer Lawrence Perrier said the locations were ‘specially chosen.’ “It’s really about authenticity,” he told the Post, speaking from his home in the Pacific Northwest. “London was very important to Bowie as an artist, and his fan base there is exceptionally passionate. New York is where he lived and made his late career music. He performed concerts here after 9/11. Played; they have a lot of ties. I read a beautiful quote from SOMA magazine where Bowie said, ‘I’m a New Yorker now.'”.
