Tamil film ‘Kozhangal’ (known globally as Pebbles) has been selected for Oscars next year. Nayantara’s Koozhangal was selected by a 15-member jury on Saturday. On Sunday, Vicky Kaushal took to Instagram stories to congratulate the film’s producers, Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara, for their Oscar selection.

Congratulating the makers for the nominations, actor Vicky Kaushal wrote, “Congratulations Vignesh Shivan, Nayanthara & team #Koojhangal! Go for the glory!!”

Along with ‘Kozhangal’, Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sardar Udham’ and Vidya Balan’s ‘Lion’ have also made it to the list.

After the nomination was announced, Vignesh also expressed happiness and excitement. His tweet read, “This is your chance to be heard! ‘And so goes the Oscars.’ Two steps away from a dream comes the moment to come true in our life. Can’t be proud, happy and satisfied.”

The story of the film is based on a real incident that happened to the family of director Vinothraj. The director was inspired by the incident and decided to write it.

The story revolves around the relationship of a young boy and his alcoholic father. The mother is living with her family as her drunken husband used to abuse her. But later the father tries to bring her back with his son.

‘Kozhangal’ stars Chellapandi and Karutthadaiya in lead roles. The 2021 Tamil film has been selected for the Oscars after five years. Before ‘Kozhangal’, Vetrimaaran’s 2016 release ‘Visaranai’ was selected as India’s entry for the Oscars from the Tamil film industry.

Along with ‘Kozhangal’, ‘Lion’ and ‘Sardar Udham’, 14 films from India were in contention for the official entry into Oscars 2022. Malayalam film ‘Nayattu’, Tamil film ‘Mandela’ were among the 14 official entry films.

The PS Vinothraj directorial was screened at the 50th International Film Festival of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The film has also been awarded the prestigious Tiger Award at the film festival. Actress Nayanthara’s Rowdy Pictures, under the domestic banner of Vignesh and fiancee, is just two steps away from winning the Tamil picture Oscar. The film will also be represented at the 94h Academy Awards, which are going to take place in the US in March 2022.
