Filmmaker Prakash Jha was allegedly molested and his face inked while the sets of Bobby Deol-starrer web series Ashram 3 were allegedly ransacked by Bajrang Dal workers in Bhopal on Sunday.
According to NDTV, in some videos that have surfaced on social media, the mob is seen chasing the crew members, grabbing at least one of them and thrashing him with a metal light stand.
The group reportedly alleged that the web series is an “attack” on Hinduism and threatened that it would not allow the show to be filmed unless the title was changed.
A Bajrang Dal leader was quoted as saying by NDTV that Jha has assured that the title will be changed. Jha is yet to lodge a complaint in this matter.
“If the name of the series is not changed then the shooting will not be allowed. Not only this, the series will not be allowed to be released either. Jha is defaming the religion. The tradition of the ashram is our identity. If any crime has been committed in anyone. ashram, then make a film in its name. Don’t defame all ashrams,” India Today quoted Bajrang Dal’s provincial convener Sushil as saying.
DIG Irshad Wali said that no complaint has been received so far.
In December last year, Rajasthan’s Jodhpur District and Sessions Court had issued notices to Prakash Jha and Deol for hurting Hindu religious sentiments. Petitioner advocate Khush Khandelwal had said that he had moved the court against the web series as the show depicts Hindu gurus as rapists and drug smugglers.
