Matt Damon recently opened up about his desire to come to India again to shoot a film, as his last film schedule in the country was 18 years ago when he shot for The Bourne Supremacy in Goa. In a video interview with India Today’s Tushar Joshi, Damon discusses his experience shooting for the film final duel. Damon will reunite with his longtime friend Ben Affleck after nearly two decades. The writer-actor duo won an Oscar for their 1997 film good will Hunting.

On the clash between acting and writing, he said that currently acting brings out things which are not in the script. “That’s the style that Ben (Afleck) and I use,” he said. He stands up, improvises the scenes together and he really enjoys the process. “It never really feels like work,” he explained.

On working with Ben Affleck again, actor remembers having tears in his eyes on 1997 set good will Hunting. He could not believe that legendary actors Robin Williams and Stellan Skarsgard were saying the words they had written. Damon tells Joshi, “The feeling was really amazing. I will never forget it.”

The talented pair have reunited after more than two decades. Production stopped midway due to the pandemic and came back wearing masks. He said, “…everyone made a lot of sacrifices to make this film possible, and we definitely feel grateful.”

On his return to India, he said that he would love to travel again and shoot a film. He said, “I have visited India eight or nine times, but I have shot a film there only once, which was about 18 years ago. We shot The Bourne Supremacy in Goa and that was India’s first film. It was my last visit. I have some fond memories of India. It is a magical and beautiful place and I look forward to visiting it many more times in the future.”

The Last Duel is a story of betrayal and vengeance against the brutality of 14th-century France, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Jodie Comer, Adam Driver, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
