Hollywood star Jason Momoa and filmmaker James Wan on Saturday provided a glimpse of the world they are creating for the Aquaman sequel in the 2021 DC fandom. Titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the new film is a sequel to 2018’s Aquaman and will see Momoa reprising the titular part. Van, who directed the first part, is also back for the sequel.

During the virtual fan event, a video was released showing various moments in the making of the film, including Momoa’s first day on set. “I’m very proud of the sequel because it tackles a lot of environmental issues. The stakes are high and I’m excited to have a bigger partner in James (Wan),” the 42-year-old actor said in the video.

Momoa insists that he feels personally ‘invested’ in the project because he loves the character and what it represents. “It is nothing that I have been a part of,” he said.

Wan said the sequel is “more mature, yet still has the fun”. “It’s a globetrotting story and visits many worlds. The film does not fear its imagination and embarks on this magical journey. I think it’s going to be really awesome,'” he said.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will also mark the return of Amber Heard as Mira and Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius, as well as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane aka Black Manta. “It’s been quite a trip to play with this cast again. We’re having a blast. This movie is a lot of fun,'” Wilson said.

Aquaman, which was released in December 2018, grossed over USD 1 billion at the global box office. The sequel is being produced by Van and Peter Safran.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to release in the US on December 16, 2022.
