Superstar Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Aanand L Rai on Friday announced their third collaboration, Gorkha, a film based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a veteran of the Indian Army’s Gorkha Regiment (5th Gorkha Rifles).

Kumar will essay the role of an Indian Army veteran who fought in the 1962, 1965 war and especially the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

National Award winning filmmaker Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan will direct the film with Rai producing through his banner Color Yellow Productions.

“Sometimes you come across so many inspiring stories that you want to make them. #Gorkha – On the life of the great war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo is one such film. To play an icon and present this special film -Directed by Sanjay Chauhan,” Kumar wrote on Twitter.

Rai, who has worked with Kumar in his directorial films Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan, said he was honored to bring the war hero’s story on screen.

“We are honored to bring the story of a great war hero, Major General Ian Cardozo, whose name is recorded in history for his immense courage in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. I look forward to working with Akshay sir again for the third time. I am also excited for the same,” he said in a statement.

Producer Himanshu Sharma said: “We look forward to honoring Major General Ian Cardozo in a film that will inspire many. Looking forward to this special journey.” Cardozo, who received the Sena Medal (he was India’s first) and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, said his story reflects the values ​​and spirit of every Indian Army officer.

“I am honored to have this story to be told on the 50th anniversary of the 1971 war. It is a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of India’s armed forces. I look forward to working with Anand and Akshay as they Bring it to life. This story reflects the values ​​and spirit of each and every officer of the Indian Army.”

Kumar and Color Yellow Productions in association with Cape of Good Films will present Gorkha.
