Sonu Sood has been charged with 20 million rupees tax evasion! Click here to find out what the Income Tax Department said
The Income Tax Department said on Saturday that actor Sonu Sood and his associates have evaded taxes worth more than 20 million rupees.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said incriminating evidence related to tax evasion was found during searches at the premises of the Bollywood actor and his associates.
A tax department official was quoted by the ANI news agency as saying: “The main methodology adopted by the actor was to route his unaccounted-for income in the form of fake unsecured loans from various bogus entities.”
The IT department launched a search and seizure operation at several of the actor’s facilities in Mumbai and a group of Lucknow-based industries dedicated to infrastructure development. The CBDT said that during the operation 28 premises were searched in Mumbai, Lucknow, Kanpur, Jaipur, Delhi, Gurugram. The department had taken action against the actor on Wednesday, after which people associated with him were searched.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Shiv Sena attacked the Center for the action and alleged that the Bollywood star, who has been involved in various welfare works since the imposition of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, was under attack.
His humanitarian activities, which began with organizing the transport of migrant workers during the pandemic, earned him national and international recognition.
Sood has recently become the ambassador for the AAP student mentoring program. Tweeting in his support, AAP Coordinator and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Sood’s prayers go out to the thousands of families he supported in these difficult times.
The Shiv Sena said that once the BJP was praising Sood, but now they feel that he is a tax evader when the governments of Delhi and Punjab tried to join him.
