Actress Simple Kaul will appear on the upcoming Sony SAB show Dil Ziddi Mane Na as military officer Koel. The actress from the Mischief, Oye Jassi and Yeh Hai Hum shows Simple is returning to television after nearly six years as a lead actress.
How did the idea of a comeback with this show come about after so many years?
During the Crown period, like everyone else, I was at my home in Delhi. In the meantime, I got a call for this show. I liked this show. I got bored even sitting at home. So I thought it was the right time to go back to work. After that, I did a few rounds of auditions, which the creators liked, and started on this show.
What were the preparations to play the role of army officer?
In this show, I play the character of a strong, self-reliant girl named Koel, who joins the military. He has a son, to save someone who has come from somewhere. She keeps her son hidden, which makes everyone think she is single. Koel is a strong woman both mentally and physically. Also in real life I have been inclined towards sports and physical activities since childhood. During my school days, I played at the state level. Because of this, I received a lot of help preparing for this character.
What was the reason for the distance from the screen?
I have three restaurants and I am going to open a fourth. For the past six years, I have been busy with these and enjoyed my trip. Meanwhile, as an actor, I missed the camera and the set very much, but it was difficult to focus on both at the same time. In 2019, I made a guest appearance on the Bhakharwadi show, but for that I was only able to film for seven or eight days in a month. After this, when the program was closed due to the epidemic, I refused to join it again and that program was also closed in a few days. Other than that, I didn’t get such a good offer that I would have quit my job and took action right away.
Recently the Supreme Court has allowed the entry of women into the National Defense Academy (NDA), what is the role of women in the defense sector?
Every family should encourage the daughters of the house to come to this area. I’ve always been in that environment. Sports used to be a lot at my school. I was very good at sports. There is no shortage of brave and talented women here. Very good athletes leave the towns even with fewer facilities. Sports help in physical and mental development. I believe that girls can do a lot by joining the defense sector. We just have to cheer them on.
What are the things you consider necessary for the country to move in the direction of women’s empowerment?
Girls’ education is of utmost importance for the empowerment of women. Every father should try to give his daughter the best education. After receiving an education, children automatically understand what it means to be self-reliant. Once everyone is educated, the problem of gender inequality will never come, because girls and women will understand their rights.
