Filmmaker Santosh Gupta’s wife and daughter have committed suicide by setting fire. Santosh Gupta’s family lived in Andheri West, the suburban area of Mumbai and the matter is Monday afternoon. On Wednesday, the Mumbai police released official information on the case.
The police said the mother’s name is Asmita and the daughter’s is Shrishti and on Monday afternoon they both set fire to their apartment. The incident came to light when neighbors called the fire department after seeing the flames. The mother and daughter were rushed to Cooper Hospital that same night, where the mother was pronounced dead upon arrival. So up to 70 percent of the burned daughter died the next day at Airoli National Burns Center.
A police investigation has revealed that Asmita suffered from kidney disease for a long time and, upset by this, took a big step like suicide. At the same time, her daughter Shrishti could not bear the trauma of her mother’s illness and she too set herself on fire.
Bharat Gaikwad, the chief inspector of the DN Nagar Police Station, said in his statement that he has recorded two separate accidental death cases and has started investigating the case. Let me tell you that filmmaker Santosh Gupta has directed such films as ‘Farrar’, ‘Romi: The Hero’ and ‘Aaj Ki Aurat’.
