On June 27, when Moscow-backed rebels reportedly advanced towards Lysychansk, the last significant city still controlled by Ukrainian forces in eastern Luhansk province, Russian soldiers were engaged in combat to accomplish one of its strategic goals in Ukraine.
In a success of Moscow’s effort to help pro-Russian separatists take control of the eastern provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk, Sievierodonetsk, the twin city of Lysychansk, collapsed on Saturday.

The eastern Donbas region of Ukraine, which includes Luhansk and the nearby Donetsk, is the center of the nation’s industrialization.
Oleksiy Arestovych, a presidential advisor for Ukraine, reported that on Sunday, missiles also targeted the center city of Cherkasy, striking a vital bridge that connects western Ukraine with the front lines in the east.

Serhiy Bratchuk, a spokesman for the Odesa regional government, reported that a missile strike in the southern Ukrainian region of Odesa had destroyed homes and set them on fire. He stated that six people, including a youngster, were hurt.
Details of the report could not readily be confirmed by Reuters. Russian officials deny attacking civilians.
