California, the other 49 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam are all covered by EBT. The Golden State Advantage EBT card is used by recipients of public assistance in California to obtain their benefits.
Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) Card
You’ll get an EBT card, also known as a Common Benefit Identification Card if you qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or cash benefits (Temporary Assistance) (CBIC). The EBT card resembles a debit card in appearance. With the EBT card, you can use your cash benefits to buy groceries and other things at participating retailers and other sites.

How To Secure EBT Card?
Your county or state will never text or phone you to ask for sensitive information like your EBT card number or your Social Security number (PIN).
You should not reveal any personal information if you are called regarding your EBT account. If you suspect that your benefits have been taken, call the customer support number on the back of your EBT card, (877) 328-9677, or alert your local social services agency right away.
- If you give out your personal information to anyone, your benefits could be stolen.
Maintain the secrecy of your EBT card number and PIN. - Never give anyone your social security information, EBT card number, or PIN.
- If you have already given your card numbers and PINs to a third party, you should update your PIN or report your EBT cards as lost or stolen by calling (877) 328-9677.
- If you’ve misplaced or stolen your EBT card, call customer support at (877) 328-9677 straight away.
You’ll hear a prompt to report your card as lost or stolen if you wait through two card number prompts without entering your EBT card number. Your EBT card will be disabled once you have been reported, and you will be given instructions on how to obtain a new card. It’s critical that you contact customer service right away! If your card and personal identification number (PIN) are used to obtain benefits, the benefits may not be restored.
You should seek a replacement EBT card as quickly as possible if your EBT card is damaged and no longer works (cannot be read) at retail or ATM establishments.

CalFresh is The California Version of The Federal SNAP
CalFresh is the California version of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Support Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, which provides low-income California residents with cash assistance for food purchases.
Those who fulfill the federal income eligibility requirements receive an electronic benefit that can be used to buy food at a variety of markets and businesses. According to the website, the program “helps qualified households and people enhance their health and well-being by providing them with a means to meet their nutritional needs.”
CalFresh is now sponsored through public-private collaboration.
Non-federal money is contributed by contractors and community-based subcontractors (State Share). A portion of the reimbursements is held by the CDSS in order to fund a statewide helpline, generate materials, conduct training, and improve outreach activities.

Gross and net income determination tests apply to CalFresh households. The program’s maximum gross net income is 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Households are subject to two types of reporting: semi-annual and change reporting. The following three changes must be reported by most homes within 10 days of their occurrence.
According to 7 U.S.C. 2015, federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients in states that provide state supplements to SSI are ineligible for SNAP/CalFresh. The State Supplementation Program (SSP or SSI/SSP), commonly known as the SNAP cash-out program, is a state supplement to the SSI program that gives SSI participants state-funded extra food benefits rather than SNAP benefits.
